Principal's Message
We hope you had a restful Christmas and New Year holiday as we welcome students and staff back to Lamont High in 2012! I would first like to introduce and welcome Mr. Drebit to the LHS staff. Mr. Drebit is teaching several junior high complimentary courses, science 14, high school information processing/communication technology/financial management and has volunteered to coach one of our basketball teams. Welcome Mr. Drebit!
The week prior to the break was certainly busy. Mr. Sustrik and our music students staged a wonderful and well attended Christmas concert and Ms. Gavinchuk's drama students held three performances of Cinder-ella. Students and staff greatly appreciate your support and attendance in Lamont High fine arts presenta-tions! Our Formal Day and annual turkey dinner was also a huge success. Participation was so high that we needed to set up tables in the gym. Students' Council did an outstanding job coordinating this and sev-eral other Christmas week activities.
Junior High academic core courses and physical education continue when semester two begins on January 31. There is no semester break this year. Our junior high student option courses will change on January 31. Junior high students will receive printed copies of their time tables to remind them of their upcoming options during the week of January 23. Our counseling/administration team will be reviewing senior high students' transcripts and semester 1 achievement to ensure semester 2 timetables are still appropriate. We will be meeting students who require semester 2 timetable modifications to ensure they are still on track to graduate. The last day for senior high school course changes in semester 2 is February 15.
I would also like to invite you to participate in my Principal Evaluation by completing the survey at the fol-lowing web site: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22DJX7BYP38. I truly believe we can continu-ously improve the quality of education services we provide our students. I value you point of view and would appreciate it if you could tell me what we are doing well and identify areas where improvement is needed. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
Finally, though December and January have been mild, it is the season for inclement weather. Please continue to visit the Elk Island Public Schools (http://www.eips.ca/index.php) and Lamont High School (http://www.lamonthigh.ca/) websites for up to date information regarding bus route status and school clo-sure information. Bus information can be found on the right side of each sites' homepage.
